Formula One Grand Prix 2
************************
In correspondence with MicroProse via e-mail I got an excuse out of them
regarding the reason why F1GP 2 would not be released on the Amiga. Here
is the full un-edited message:

Subject: Amiga F1GP
Oliver,
As I understand it some exporatory work was done, early in development, to see
if the sequel to Grand Prix could be ported to the Amiga or AGA computers. It
was decided that the finished result would look very much like the first game,
with little graphical improvemnets, due to hardware and memory limitations, and
this idea was dropped. SInce then a great deal more work has been done on the
sequel, which is now to be published on the PC only. This has meant the
possibilities of transfering this to other platforms is now no longer feasible.
The Amiga and AGA machines do not have the power to cope with this kind of
program anymore.
We are committed to the Amiga machines, only while the shops continue to buy
from us. The Amiga sales have been dropping consistently over the last 2 years,
with the PC, and especially the PC-CDROM being the most popular format. To take
advantage of this we must write for this format only to increase sales.
No new work has been done or is to be done of Grand Prix for the Amiga or AGA
computers.
:(
Regards,
Mark Rich/MicroProse-Europe

The PC version is currently in production and is set for release in late
1995. It will require at least a 486/66 PC, CDROM drive and 8Mb RAM!
The PC version uses extensive texture-mapping, and I must say the
screenshots I've seen are amazing. I'm sure AGA machines could handle a
version of F1GP 2, and even if most of the texture mapping was dropped - it
is the gameplay that really counts and that is something that can
certainly be improved upon on the Amiga. What we really need are new
tracks to bring us up-to-date with the 1995 circuits. An simple update
of the original game would be welcomed as long is it contained all the
features of F1GP for the PC, which has a serial link option and frame rate
changer as standard.
F1GP is a big seller, as it hovered around in the top 20 for a couple of
years in the Gallup charts, and the rerelease did pretty well too. I'm
sure that F1GP 2 would be an even bigger hit, if they were to release it.
Now, this is where *you* come in. If enough of us write to MicroProse,
then we may just see F1GP 2 on the Amiga. For example, you could ask
them for updates to the original F1GP, new tracks, Amiga version of F1GP 2
and/or mention how well F1GP-Ed improves the original :-) Contact
